Residents of Orsk, where a dam broke due to flooding, went to Komsomolskaya Square to the city administration building, a Kommersant correspondent reports. Local residents complain about the lack of effective measures to combat the flood and the small amount of compensation allocated to the victims. The mayor of Orsk, Vasily Kozupitsa, came out to the protesters. Those who came to the square demanded his resignation, reports RBC.
In the video published Orsk.ru, Vasily Kozupitsa is trying to address the residents through a loudspeaker. After that to him came up several people asked how long it would take to eliminate the consequences of the flood and why possible threats were not discussed in a timely manner. “The water is flowing and cannot be stopped,” the mayor replies.
In another video, a police officer called on protesters to identify an initiative group to discuss the issues that arose with local authorities. As a Kommersant correspondent reports, some residents entered the administration building together with Vasily Kozupitsa. At the same time, people do not leave Komsomolskaya Square. In total, according to Kommersant’s estimates, several hundred people gathered in the square.
Today, April 7, the prosecutor’s office of the Orenburg region warned residents from participating in unauthorized mass actions, “especially in light of the established regime” of the emergency. As the prosecutor’s office noted, calls for participation in the protests were distributed on social networks.
On the evening of April 5, due to heavy flooding in Orsk, a bulk dam on the Ural River broke, and about 4 thousand houses, in which almost 11 thousand people live, were in the flood zone. Local authorities announced the start of the evacuation about two hours before the dam broke. According to the decision of the authorities of the Orenburg region, the affected residents of Orsk will receive payments in the amount of 20 thousand rubles, and in case of loss of property – from 50 to 100 thousand.
