The mayor of Kislovodsk, Evgeny Moiseev, instructed to look into the approval of the quote from artist Mikhail Baryshnikov, which was used to decorate the city choreographic school.

“Now I’m figuring out who approved the quote,” the mayor said, “of a man, albeit a genius, but who abandoned his native country and does not support it.” Mikhail Baryshnikov is an Honored Artist of the RSFSR. He did not return to the Soviet Union after the Bolshoi Theater’s tour to Canada in 1974.

According to Moiseev, in order for a ballet dancer to be quoted in Russia, he must “stand up for the defense of our native country, as one, together with our president.” The mayor promised to replace the artist’s statement “with the words of a true patriot of his native land.”

The school was built according to the state program for the development of the North Caucasus Federal District. The Stavropol TV channel recently showed a story about her – the video also included a wall with a quote from Baryshnikov.
