As before wrote “Kommersant”, in Volgograd, a public opinion poll is being conducted on the possibility of holding a city referendum on the renaming of the city to Stalingrad. Meanwhile, as shown by the operational survey Russian Field held by phone on March 28, most residents would not support this initiative. The share of supporters exceeds the share of opponents only in the age category 60+. Answering the question for what purpose this topic is now being raised, respondents most often named a reminder of the heroic deed in the Great Patriotic War (25%), money laundering (24%) and raising the level of patriotism (23%).
Note that a similar survey VTsIOM, held in January 2023, also showed that the majority of citizens do not support the renaming. Then 67% of the respondents were against it.
