The majority of Russians (58%) are critical of their compatriots who left the country after the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, as follows from the materials of the Center for Socio-Political Research and Information Technologies of the Russian State University for the Humanities. Most often, respondents over 55 years old expressed a negative attitude towards the decision of Russians to leave.

A total of 2,300 respondents over 18 years old took part in the online survey. According to the results of the study, which lead “Vedomosti”, 31% of respondents condemn the decision to leave Russia after the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine, 27% rather condemn it. 28% of respondents adhere to a neutral position, 10% approve of relocation, 5% find it difficult to answer.

Researchers note that the older the respondents, the more critical they are of those who left. Among respondents in the age group “55 years and older,” 36% expressed condemnation, 4% said they approved of the relocation of their compatriots. 23% of respondents aged 45 to 54 years old said they did not support leaving Russia, 4% approved. Most of all, the decision of compatriots to leave Russia was supported by respondents aged 18 to 24 years – 7%, 38% of them said that they did not care, 19% expressed condemnation.

October 9, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov statedthat Russian citizens who have left the country recently are not in danger when returning to their homeland. The next day, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that among the relocating citizens there were those who financed the Armed Forces of Ukraine or criticized Russia. He threatened relocants with articles about treason and a stage to “where there is no summer.”
