“The main thing is not to go too far” – Kommersant FM

LDPR deputies proposed checking not only foreign agents, but also their relatives. According to the authors of the initiative, the problem is that these categories of citizens use their loved ones to receive funding from abroad. A corresponding letter was sent to the leadership of the State Duma. Kommersant FM political commentator Dmitry Drize, in turn, believes that these measures do not contribute to harmony in society.

After the New Year holidays, the State Duma commission to investigate the facts of interference of foreign states in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation returned to work. And, apparently, not in vain: foreign agents, their numerous accomplices and foreign sponsors cannot calm down, they strive to interfere in our elections and discredit them in every possible way. This cannot be allowed. The relevant materials were sent to the right place – to the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Justice.

But this, apparently, is not enough, they still receive funding, and somehow the agents manage to continue their vicious activities. Well, never mind, here are new proposals from deputies Andrei Lugovoy and Ivan Sukharev.

The point is to take a closer look at the relatives of the foreign agent. That’s right, what could be simpler: arrange foreign funding for your relatives, and it doesn’t matter, further harming the state.

So let foreign agents also report on the capital movements of their immediate family. The question was posed, in principle, correctly. There is such a practice among, say, officials and other government officials: he himself seems naked as a falcon, but grandmothers, mothers-in-law, wives, past and present – owners of large businesses, houses and other real estate, are swimming in gold. And what? They can, the law doesn’t prohibit them from doing so.

Foreign agents may well follow the same path. Yes, what about immediate ones, you can also affect distant relatives. These citizens are cunning, they will also come to terms with their cousins, grand-nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. In general, a foreign agent is a stain on the entire family. If you don’t want to answer for him, then you should publicly distance yourself from him. Otherwise you will be blacklisted, then you have to prove that I am not me, the horse is not mine; they say, a relative was found to take my fancy, but I didn’t even know him. But they won’t believe it. This is such a strange prospect.

Unfortunately, any law can be circumvented, no matter how hard you try. The main thing is not to go too far, so that innocent loyal citizens do not suffer. They will take it and be offended by the state, and even without any foreign interference. What do you want to do with this then? So we will have the exact opposite effect. And foreign agents will be able to continue their activities, and the people will misunderstand everything.

But something tells me that there will be other similar proposals. The year is just beginning, the commissions are working.

Parliamentarians are making sure that foreign funding does not slip through, and there will be ways to close all loopholes. No one will touch our elections, we will live in order and tranquility.
