The main astronomical events of December have been named: two meteor showers and a solstice

Moscow Planetarium published a list of astronomical events that the inhabitants of the Earth will be able to observe in December. The most noteworthy of them is the Geminids meteor shower on the night of December 13-14.
The number of shooting stars during the peak of the meteor shower will reach 120 per hour, and the Moon close to the new moon will not interfere with observing the Geminids.
Another meteor shower, the Ursids, will be observed on the longest night of the year, from December 21 to 22, but the number of meteors will be smaller – about 10 per hour – and the Moon is close to full moon, that is, it will “light up” the night sky.
The longest night will also mark the beginning of astronomical winter. The winter solstice will begin at 06:27 Moscow time.
The full moon will be visible on the night of December 27th.
