The long-awaited athletics arena opened in Petrozavodsk

As reported by the Ministry of Education and Sports of Karelia, on January 26 a new track and field athletics arena was opened in Petrozavodsk.

Let us remind youthat on the basis of the new sports facility on January 25, the Northwestern Federal District athletics championship was supposed to take place, but due to the delay and postponement of the opening of the arena, the competition was cancelled, and the parents of the athletes had to hand over their tickets.

The construction of the sports complex with an area of ​​7,400 square meters was supervised by the Security Council of the Russian Federation, headed by Nikolai Patrushev. The arena itself is equipped with a gym and conference room, showers, a massage room, a recovery center with a mini-pool and sauna, a commentary room, and a parking lot has been installed next to the facility.

Competitions in various sports will be held at the track and field arena. Now PetrSU is preparing a package of documents to include the facility in the All-Russian Register of Sports Facilities, so that the sports complex can host not only All-Russian, but also international competitions.

At the opening ceremony, the head of Karelia, Artur Parfenchikov, presented PetrSU students with letters of gratitude for their high sporting achievements in 2023. Among the recipients are Sofia Fofanova, Ilya Myugriev, Arman Bagdasaryan, Konstantin Godinov, Robert Moiseenko and Zoya Kiseleva.
