A list of books subject to confiscation due to LGBT propaganda was developed, but is now irrelevant, says Artem Sokolov, president of the Association of Internet Trade Companies (AKIT). The day before, Megamarket confirmed to Kommersant the authenticity of the list.

According to Mr. Sokolov, this list was compiled during the discussion of the bill in the State Duma. “The industry wanted to demonstrate clearly what could be covered by the law if clear criteria were not developed. Now this list is irrelevant – it has nothing to do with reality,” the head of AKIT told RIA Novosti.

“Megamarket” Kommersant reported, that it withdrew from sale books listed in the list of restrictions in connection with the law banning LGBT propaganda. Among more than 250 titles, the list included works by Fyodor Dostoevsky, Stephen King, Haruki Murakami, Marcel Proust, Oscar Wilde, Stefan Zweig and others.

In December 2022, President Vladimir Putin signed a law banning LGBT propaganda on the Internet, media, books, audiovisual services, cinema and advertising. In November 2023, the Supreme Court of Russia banned in the country the activities of the formally non-existent “International LGBT Social Movement”, recognizing it as extremist. The Legal Commission, however, spoke out against criminal liability for gay propaganda.

Details – in the material “Kommersant” “There is no place for non-traditional people in the management company”.
