The Liberal Democratic Party proposes to buy an aircraft carrier from China and name it after Zhirinovsky

Sergei Karginov (LDPR), First Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee for the Far East and the Arctic, proposed buying a Soviet aircraft carrier from China and renaming it in honor of Vladimir Zhirinovsky. Previously, this aircraft carrier was sold to China by Ukraine.
The parliamentarian made an appeal on this occasion to the leadership of the Department of Asian and Pacific Cooperation of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The aircraft-carrying cruiser “Varyag” under the agreement on the division of the Black Sea Fleet of the USSR passed to Ukraine. The unfinished cruiser was sold to the PRC in 1998 with the initial purpose of being converted into a floating entertainment center. But after receiving the ship, Beijing changed its plans, completed it as an aircraft carrier, renaming it Liaoning.
The ship, according to Karginov, was to become one of the main ones in the USSR. After the collapse of the country, Ukraine chose, as the deputy noted, to sell the cruiser “at the price of scrap metal.” Karginov proposes to buy the aircraft carrier and name it after the founder of the Liberal Democratic Party, Vladimir Zhirinovsky. “And make it the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet,” the parliamentarian added.
