The co-founder and leader of the rock group “Agatha Christie” Vadim Samoilov did not get into the Asbest City Duma (Sverdlovsk Region) following the September 11 elections. He ran as a self-nominated candidate and won 208 votes in his single-member constituency. Communist Yevgeny Shabanov won the election with 366 votes. Mr. Samoilov said that the status of a deputy was not an end in itself for him.

“I assess the results of these elections very positively, because I did not go alone, but in a team. The goal of the team was to unblock the work of the City Duma, and it succeeded, because adequate people occupied the majority in the Duma of Asbest, and the marginal minority is already in the minority and will not be able to block the work of the Duma, ”he said in his Telegram channel. According to him, all the projects announced by him will be implemented.

The previous elections to the Asbest City Duma in 2017 were marked by a protest vote. They were won by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, which received 11 out of 21 mandates in the Duma. Three seats went to A Just Russia, two to United Russia and the Liberal Democratic Party, three more deputies were self-nominated. Following the results of the 2022 elections, the majority of mandates went to United Russia – 17. Four more were taken by candidates from the Communist Party.

The election campaign in Asbest was accompanied by scandals. In total, 13 people dropped out of the election race for various reasons, among them representatives “United Russia”, “New People” and CPRF. Opponents filed lawsuits against each other for removal from the elections with entire lists, but none of them was eventually considered by the court.
