Austria is against the transfer of income from frozen Russian assets for the purchase of weapons for Ukraine

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer said before the summit of EU leaders that the country opposes the transfer of income from frozen Russian assets for the purchase of weapons for Ukraine.

“For us, as a country with neutral status, it is important that the money is not spent on weapons and ammunition,” the chancellor said. He recalled that a different approach was first discussed – funds should be invested in reconstruction in Ukraine. Nehammer believes that this is a “reasonable proposal.”

Recently, Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said that Austria intends to maintain a neutral status and will not join NATO. In addition, Vienna has no plans to send troops or weapons to Ukraine.
