Sports lawyer Anna Antseliovich believes. That the intention of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to complete its consideration of the decision in the case of Kamila Valieva in the next 2 months indicates the reluctance of the court to unduly prolong the proceedings. Her words are quoted by TASS.

Earlier, CAS announced the completion of the hearings in Valieva’s case, the verdict will be announced in January 2024.

Antseliovich said the CAS apparently wants to complete the process before the next anniversary of the Olympics, and such deadlines are unusually short for this judicial body.

“I think that the referees are under pressure from the public, federations, athletes, that the case is dragging on for a long time. Everyone is waiting for a decision on the fate of the Olympic gold, a large number of parties are interested, so I think CAS does not want to delay this matter further,” she said.

The Russian figure skater is suspected of using the banned drug trimetazidine. It was detected in a sample dated December 25, 2021, and the test result was made public in February 2022 during the Beijing Olympics. At that time, Valieva had already won gold in the team tournament.
