Lawyer Fyodor Aksenenko reported that his client Vladimir Vorontsov, founder of the Police Ombudsman public page, was indeed released from prison. Telegram channels previously reported this.
According to the lawyer, Vorontsov is currently with his family.
The founder of a public page that published information about corruption in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Vorontsov was detained in 2020. During the investigation, he was charged with numerous episodes of illegal actions, but in 2022 the court decided to find the accused guilty only of extortion, distribution of pornography and insulting a government official. Vorontsov did not admit guilt on any counts. The court imposed 5 years in prison.
Vorontsov’s lawyer explained that his client’s sentence had expired, taking into account the time spent in the pre-trial detention center.
