The large circle metro line of the capital’s metro is open

On March 1, the longest subway ring, the Bolshaya Koltsevaya Line, was launched in Moscow. The last nine stations opened today: Maryina Roshcha, Rizhskaya, Sokolniki, Tekstilshchiki, Printers, Nagatinsky Zaton, Klenovy Boulevard, Kashirskaya and Varshavskaya.
Russian President Vladimir Putin (via video link) and Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin launched full-fledged train traffic along the entire Big Circle Line of the Moscow Metro.
The opening ceremony at the Sokolniki LCL station was held with the participation of employees of the Moscow Metro and specialists who took part in the construction of the Big Ring.
BKL is one of the largest metro construction projects in the world, its length is 70 kilometers, where 31 stations and three electric depots are located.
“The Big Circle Line will significantly improve the operation of the Moscow metro, and with it the entire transport system of Moscow,” the mayor noted. — Dozens of shorter and more convenient routes, tens of millions of saved hours, more comfort for millions of passengers and opportunities for the development of the subway for many years to come — this is what our new Big Ring means for Moscow.
The successful implementation of the BKL project is the result of the work of all city services, the Construction Complex and, of course, metro builders.
It takes 87 minutes to drive a full circle on the BKL.
From the Big Circle Line, you can transfer to 11 other metro lines, to the MCC and MCD. The launch of the new line will improve the transport accessibility of 34 districts of the capital, serve 15 million residents of Moscow and the Moscow Region, and reduce the load on other metro lines. On many routes, the time savings for daily trips will be up to 35 – 45 minutes.
Approximately 100 modern Russian trains “Moscow-2020” will run on the BCL.
By the opening of new stations, changes were made to the schedule of ground transport. Almost a dozen routes have been made more convenient, and new ones have also been launched.
Until the end of the week, admission to all BKL stations will be free.
