Hieromonk Markish called the “smallness” necessary for believers in Great Lent

Great Lent for Orthodox Russians began on February 27, 2023 and will last over 40 days. Many are going to observe it, but not everyone understands the meaning of fasting well. Hieromonk Macarius Markish spoke about this at the MK press center.
“During all fasts, not only Great, but also on weekdays, on Wednesday and Friday, it is important for us to remember important events that took place many, many years ago. It is important for us to overcome our “want”, because this is an obstacle on our path to Christ.
People who always rely on their desires do not have the Orthodox path. Finding Eternity requires us to cooperate with God: He gives himself to us, and we must give something to Him. The holy martyrs gave their lives for the sake of God, but such a small thing is required of us – to give up our desire to eat a piece of sausage. Is it a lot? And this is the religious meaning of fasting.”
Macarius Markish also stressed that there is some meaning behind any religious restriction, nothing happens just like that.
