Kurgan governor: local residents are hauling soil from the dam to their plots

The governor of the Kurgan region, Vadim Shumkov, complained in his telegram channel that local residents are removing soil from a dam in the regional center, in the Voronovka area.

Previously, regional authorities reported flood forecast residential sector in connection with the emergency in the Orenburg region and warned of a possible evacuation.

“Unfortunately, as colleagues said, in many places the soil from the dam was taken away by the local residents whom it protects to their plots,” wrote Vadim Shumkov. He also posted a photo on his channel of volunteers working to restore the dam.

He added that he has instructed city officials to inspect sections of the levee for possible breaks and begin closing driveways and overpasses.
