Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said during a press call that the head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, is establishing order in his region, and the Kremlin supports his intention to punish the rioters at Makhachkala airport.

“Of course,” said Dmitry Peskov, answering the question whether the Kremlin supports the actions of the head of Dagestan. “This is the head of the region, this is his prerogative. Actually, he is engaged in restoring order in his region after such an incident,” the press secretary added.

At a regional meeting on October 31, Sergei Melikov called the rioters “cowards, scoundrels and scoundrels who do not deserve leniency.” He also said that the organizers of the riots and their active participants would be held accountable: those who broke gates, smashed shop windows and tried to overturn a police car. At the same time, according to him, no one will “chase witches.”

As part of a criminal case regarding mass unrest at Makhachkala airport after the arrival of a flight from Israel, 83 people were detained. 15 riot participants were arrested for a period of 3 to 10 days, two more were sentenced to correctional labor.
