Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin has nothing to do with the decision to release the body of Alexei Navalny to his mother. Mr. Peskov called the statements of the politician’s supporters about the Kremlin’s involvement in the timing of the transfer of the body absurd.
“The Kremlin has nothing to do with this; accordingly, the Kremlin cannot exert any pressure. These are yet another absurd accusations made by these supporters; in my opinion, they are all wanted in one way or another, almost all of them are abroad, so their statements must be treated accordingly,” Dmitry Peskov said during a press call.
In response to an additional question from journalists about the reason for the decision to hand over the body of Alexei Navalny only on the ninth day after his death, Dmitry Peskov repeated: “This is absolutely not our question and not our prerogative, so I cannot say anything.”
The death of Alexei Navalny in IK-3 “Polar Wolf” was reported on February 16 by the FSIN department for the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. According to the department, during a walk he felt unwell and lost consciousness; doctors were unable to save the politician. On February 24, the body of Alexei Navalny, which was in the Salekhard morgue, was transferred his mother.
