The Kremlin does not see positive prospects for extending the grain deal, so decisions will be made taking into account the expiration date of the agreement. This was stated by the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.
“The work goes on, the work goes on. But, frankly speaking, we don’t see such positive prospects yet. Let’s just say that everything that was agreed upon in our address was not fulfilled. From this we proceed. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves,” Peskov said.
He noted that agreements always concern two or more parties. Russia clearly fulfilled its obligations. “The mechanism has been created and is still functioning, but it cannot continue indefinitely, so decisions will be developed taking into account the expiration date of the extension, and they will be made public at the appropriate time,” the presidential spokesman explained.
On June 13, during a meeting with military commanders, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the Kremlin was considering the option of withdrawing from the grain deal. Journalists earlier clarified Peskov, we are talking about early exit or at the end of the deadline. “At the end,” he said.
At the end of May, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declaredthat the grain deal would cease to function if “everything remains as it is.” “If everything remains as it is, and apparently, it will be so, then it will be necessary to proceed from the fact that it no longer functions,” he stressed.
The grain deal was concluded on July 22, 2022 by representatives of Turkey and the UN on the one hand and representatives of Russia and Ukraine on the other. Separate agreements were signed with Moscow and Kiev: the first one was for the export of Ukrainian grain from three ports, including Odessa, Yuzhny and Chernomorsk, the second one was to help facilitate the export of Russian grain and fertilizers in the context of international sanctions in connection with the NWO. The last time it was extended until July 17.
