Zakharova: Russian policy in the field of nuclear deterrence is defensive in nature
The policy of the Russian Federation on the issue of nuclear deterrence is only defensive in nature. This statement was made by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova at SPIEF-2023.
“Russian policy in the field of nuclear deterrence is purely defensive in nature, and the hypothetical use of nuclear weapons is clearly limited to emergency circumstances within the framework of purely defensive purposes,” said the director of the information and press department of the foreign ministry.
Zakharova also stressed that Moscow fully adheres to the principle of the inadmissibility of a nuclear war, in which there can be no winners. She added that Russia calls on all countries that have nuclear weapons to adhere to the same position.
At the same time, the Russian diplomat stressed that according to the military doctrine of 2014, the Russian Federation reserves the right to use nuclear weapons in case of their use by other countries or any other aggression that threatens the existence of the Russian state.
