Russia will help protect the rights of Alfa Group co-founder Alexey Kuzmichev as a citizen of Russia, subject to his own desire. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.
Peskov admitted that he was not familiar with the situation, but had read media reports.
“We must receive information about the detention of a Russian citizen through our diplomatic mission. After receiving the information, and if the detainee wishes to do so, of course, we will help protect his rights as a citizen of Russia,” said the presidential press secretary.
October 30 French media wrote that law enforcement officers detained Kuzmichev as part of a money laundering investigation. Police searched his apartments, including a house in Paris and a villa in Saint-Tropez. Sixty people were involved in the searches, and wads of cash were found at the scene.
Kuzmichev has been included in the sanctions list of all European Union countries since March 15, 2022. In June, France’s highest court rejected Kuzmichev’s claim against the country’s government, which decided to reveal the location of his house in Paris and villa in the Riviera as part of a campaign to freeze the assets of Russian businessmen.
