The Kremlin called allegations of arms supplies from North Korea groundless

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov refused to comment on the joint statement of the US Foreign Ministry, Japan and South Korea that the DPRK allegedly supplies weapons to Russia, which are then used in a special operation in Ukraine.

“There are many such reports, they are all, as a rule, groundless. There are no specifics there. Such messages have been around for a long time. Therefore, we see no point in commenting on this. North Korea is our neighbor, and we are developing and will continue to develop relations in all areas,” he said.

In September, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un came to Russia on an official visit and held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Peskov called this meeting “timely, useful and constructive.” The Kremlin emphasized that Russia will continue to develop relations with North Korea. After the North Korean leader’s visit to Russia, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol said that if Russia helps North Korea expand its weapons programs in exchange for assistance in conducting a special operation, it would be a “direct provocation.”

USA, South Korea and Japan on October 22 for the first time held joint air exercises near the Korean Peninsula. The parties, as noted, plan to further strengthen trilateral cooperation based on the “strong” alliance of Seoul and Washington.
