The Kremlin assessed the prospects for the work of Wagner PMC in Africa

Russia and the Central African Republic have cooperation on the state line, military advisers will continue to work on the territory of the republic. This was announced by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.

“We have state cooperation with the Central African Republic. We will continue it. It is backed by the necessary agreements. Of course, our military advisers will continue their activities in the necessary and demanded quantity,” he said.

Earlier in an interview with RT, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov toldthat, at the request of the governments of the Central African Republic and Mali, there are several hundred Russian military personnel in these countries as instructors. “This work, of course, will be continued,” Lavrov added. He also recalled that the government of the Central African Republic and Mali turned to Wagner PMCs with a request to ensure the safety of their leadership in conditions when the countries “simply abandoned the French and other Europeans, curtailing the presence of anti-terrorist contingents there and closing their military bases, which were designed to reinforce the fight with terrorism.” Lavrov also noted that against the backdrop of an attempted armed rebellion in Russia, the relations of the countries have not changed.

Later adviser to the President of the CAR Fidel Guandjika informedthat in the event of the departure of PMC “Wagner” from the country, the leadership of the republic will be ready to accept another security group, which will be sent by the Russian side. His words are quoted by the Financial Times. According to the publication, as of February 2023, there were about 1,500 Wagner PMC fighters in the CAR.

On the night of June 24, an armed rebellion was attempted in Russia. On the evening of June 23, the founder of Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, reported on the attack on the rear camps of the PMC and blamed the leadership of the Ministry of Defense for this. The department immediately denied this information, calling it a provocation. That same evening, the FSB opened a criminal case against Prigozhin under the article on armed rebellion, which was closed on June 27. On June 24, “Wagner” managed to block Rostov-on-Don and take control of the city’s military facilities, Prigozhin also announced a campaign against Moscow. Then, in the capital, the Moscow region and the Voronezh region, a counter-terrorist operation (CTO) regime was introduced, which was canceled on June 26. On the evening of June 24, the Kremlin reported on the agreements reached with the founder of the PMC to de-escalate the situation. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko took part in the negotiations to resolve the situation.
