The killer who shot people on the station square was sentenced after 20 years

All these years he lived quietly under his last name

The Reutov City Court handed down a verdict in a murder case committed 20 years ago. In December 2003, a local resident shot people in the square near the Reutovo station, but only now justice has caught up with him.

As MK learned, the reason for the crime was a quarrel between visitors to a billiard room located on the station square on the night of December 6. The two companies were about to go home and went out into the street when one of the vacationers, 28-year-old Alexander Petrov (last name changed), suddenly began demanding that strangers call him a taxi. They, naturally, refused. There was a small scuffle in which no one was seriously injured. Petrov eventually called a taxi for himself and left with a friend – but, as it turned out, not far away. The aggressive citizen took a 7.62 mm pistol in a secluded place, which he had found shortly before and hid for the time being. About 40 minutes later, Petrov returned to the square to the station, where his offenders were still talking. With the words “Well, what do you say now?”, the man pointed a gun at them. The opponent replied “Shoot, I’m not afraid!” The first shot misfired, the second was accurate – Petrov wounded the enemy in the arm and head, and with the third shot he killed another enemy. The shooter then fled. The identity of the criminal was quickly established, he was put on the federal wanted list, but, apparently, law enforcement officers did not show due diligence. Petrov did not move anywhere, he simply tried to lead a reclusive lifestyle. He did not marry, at the age of 45 he did not renew his passport, worked via the Internet without official registration, and did not even dare to contact the traffic police to obtain a driver’s license.

Petrov was detained in November 2022 at his place of residence. The fugitive insisted that he committed the murder in self-defense, since he had previously been severely beaten and, due to his injuries and poor health, even dropped out of college. But since the criminal never went to the doctors after the fateful night, there was no confirmation of these words. The judges also did not believe Petrov’s assurances that he did not know about his status as a wanted person – it is unlikely that then the man would have avoided contacts with official structures. As a result, the court sentenced him to 9 years in a maximum security colony. Petrov will also pay the family of the deceased 1.4 million rubles as compensation for moral damage.
