The head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, announced the unchanging recommendations of the IOC regarding Russian and Belarusian athletes. This is reported by the German sports publication Sport Bild.
“Now is not the time to change our recommendations or attitude. We still do not recommend inviting Russian or Belarusian athletes to compete. They still have no anthems, no flags, no national colors,” said the head of the IOC.
Most national federations agreed with this recommendation. Mr. Bach has repeatedly stressed that the suspension is not a sanction, but a measure to ensure the safety of athletes from Russia and Belarus.
Formerly International Skating Union urged does not consider the removal of Russian athletes from competitions as sanctions or disqualification and stated that this decision is aimed at maintaining the safety and integrity of the tournaments.
