There are no new recommendations from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the admission of Russians to the Olympics in Paris, the organization’s press service reported. Last week, Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin said that the department would decide on the participation of Russians after the final recommendations of the IOC.
“We refer you to the decision of the Executive Committee of December 2023 regarding the participation of individual neutral athletes in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris,” the IOC press service said TASS.
President Vladimir Putin, as became known last week, previously instructed the Ministry of Sports and the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) to develop proposals for the participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Oleg Matytsin later saidthat the Russian authorities are awaiting the final recommendations of the IOC, which will appear in the near future. He called the demands of some federations to sign declarations unacceptable.
In December, the IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris in a neutral status. Licenses to participate in the Games got six Russians and five Belarusians. The decision does not apply to team competitions; the participation of athletes who supported the war effort and who are associated with the army is prohibited. The display of official symbols of Russia and Belarus will be prohibited at the Olympics.
