On the official website of the IOC they explained the decision to allow athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris in a neutral status. According to the explanations, the decision was determined by the opinion of the majority of athletes around the world, and the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee did not affect it.
Earlier, the IOC Executive Committee announced the admission of athletes from the two countries to the Olympic Games under a neutral flag, which will be held in Paris. The capital of France will host the best athletes on the planet from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
A statement on the IOC website said they were guided by the following vision: “The view of the majority of athletes is not to punish fellow athletes for the actions of their government.”
The call, as noted in the press release, was supported by the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), as well as the continental NOC associations.
