The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has banned two-time Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling Abdulrashid Sadulayev from competing at a licensed tournament for the 2024 Olympic Games. This was announced by the head of the Russian Wrestling Federation, Mikhail Mamiashvili. European champion Alikhan Zhabrailov will perform in Baku instead.

“After another pseudo-check, the IOC published new lists of those not allowed to participate in international competitions. Unfortunately, they included two-time Olympic winner, captain of our team Abdulrashid Sadulaev. Alas, even if Sadulayev comes to Baku, he will not be allowed to compete; he has a ban from the IOC at Athena,” said Mr. Mamiashvili (quoted from website FSBR).

According to the head of the Wrestling Federation, Russian wrestlers are now faced with the task of getting tickets to the Olympic Games on a sporting basis, after which a decision will be made whether they should go to Paris. The licensed tournament in Baku will be held from April 5 to 7. To qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, athletes must reach the finals of a licensed tournament.

27-year-old Abdulrashid Sadulaev is a five-time world champion and four-time European champion. He competes in the weight category up to 97 kg. In February, Sadulaev was unable to compete at the European Championships because he refused at the entrance to Romania.
