The investigator lost a lawsuit against a Belgorod regional newspaper due to an offensive headline
The investigator lost a lawsuit against a Belgorod regional newspaper over the headline “Not at all like in the movies.” This was reported by the defendant’s lawyer Svetlana Kuzevanova.
The newspaper published material for Police Day in November. However, an annoying typo crept into the title, which the proofreaders missed: in the word “completely” the letter “v” was missing.
The editors apologized and published a message about the error, but the investigator discussed in the article demanded through the court compensation for moral damage in the amount of two million rubles.
The court conducted a linguistic examination, which determined that the title did not contain negative or offensive information about the plaintiff.
The investigator, in fact, clarified that moral damage was caused to her not by the publication itself, but by the mocking reactions of Internet users to it. However, the court found that the defendant should not be responsible for the reactions of other people.
According to the lawyer, instead of compensation, the investigator herself will now have to pay 28 thousand rubles for conducting the examination, as well as reimburse the newspaper for legal expenses.
