The Executive Committee of the International Triathlon Union (World Triathlon) allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to take part in international competitions in a neutral status. Statement posted on the organization’s website.
“The decision was made in order to open the way for independent neutral athletes with Russian and Belarusian passports, as well as for officials from both countries. World Triathlon is working with the International Olympic Committee and the Association of International Olympic Summer Sports Federations to develop the independent verification process required for the participation of any athlete or official from the two countries,” the statement said.
In March 2022, World Triathlon temporarily suspended athletes from Russia and Belarus from participation in international competitions due to the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine. March 28 International Olympic Committee recommended sports federations to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions in a neutral status and on the condition that they do not represent Russian law enforcement agencies, and are not engaged in “support for hostilities”.
