The International Ice Hockey Federation has suspended Israel from tournaments, citing security concerns.
The International Ice Hockey Federation announced its decision to temporarily suspend the Israeli team from participation in competitions.
The organization released a statement saying the decision was made “in accordance with the duty of care to protect competitors.” The Israeli team’s participation, it said, will be limited until “the safety and well-being of all participants (including Israelis)” can be guaranteed.
On the morning of October 7, Hamas fighters infiltrated the border areas of southern Israel, killing and taking hostage many civilians and military personnel, and launched more than 3,000 rockets into the country. The number of victims was at least 1,400 people, most of them civilians. Many of the dead were participants in the music festival. The attack was the largest mass murder of Jews since the Holocaust. In response, Israel launched Operation Iron Swords against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
