During the period when poplar fluff appears, it is better for people with allergies to wear masks, an alternative is to protect the mucosa with a spray, said Daria Fomina, chief freelance specialist allergist-immunologist of the Moscow Health Department.
In an interview with RIA Novosti, she noted that poplar fluff is a carrier of pollen, but in itself it is not an allergen.
“Poplar fluff for pollen from birch and other trees and plants is a “parachute” that lifts fallen pollen into the air and creates an additional load on the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract,” the expert said.
According to her, those people who are very sensitive to the pollen of plants that have completed the flowering period, with the advent of poplar fluff, they again begin to complain of allergies.
Fomina noted that a mask or spray creates barriers for contact of mucous membranes with any pollen.
However, after returning home, you need to wash yourself, as well as completely change clothes, since pollen can remain on them.
At the same time, she noted that it is much more difficult to protect the eyes from pollen, and glasses do not help in this regard.
Fomina also recalled that alcohol significantly increases the symptoms of allergies, and therefore, during an allergy, alcohol should be completely excluded.
