“The reserve 330 kV transmission line leading to the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) was disconnected late last night due to damage caused by shelling. The scale of the damage is not yet clear, but work is already underway to repair the line, ”explained the head of the agency, Rafael Grossi.
According to the head of the IAEA, consultations with Moscow and Kyiv on the coordination and speedy implementation of the plan to create a nuclear safety and protection zone around the ZNPP continue.
Russia has controlled the ZNPP since the end of February. In early October, after the Zaporozhye region became part of Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to take the plant facilities into federal ownership and create the Zaporozhye NPP FSUE to ensure the safety of nuclear facilities.
The city of Energodar, as well as the ZNPP located in it, are regularly shelled by the Ukrainian army. Grossi called for an immediate end to the shelling of the station and stepped up contacts with the Russian and Ukrainian sides to agree on the creation of a safe zone around the ZNPP.
