The Russian Council for Human Rights under the President called for the creation of an international commission to investigate the crimes of the Ukrainian military and militants fighting on their side, reports press office HRC.
“We, the members of the Human Rights Commission for Relations with International Organizations, join the UN calls to thoroughly investigate the incident with the execution of Russian prisoners of war by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and bring the perpetrators to justice … We call for the creation of an international commission to investigate the crimes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the militants fighting on their side,” the message says.
The HRC noted that the appeal was directed primarily to the UN and human rights organizations in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
This week, two videos appeared on the network, which allegedly depicted the execution of Russian prisoners of war by soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The Russian Defense Ministry called these shots a confirmation of the “knuckle-blowing essence of the current Kyiv regime.” The department stressed that this case is not the first war crime committed against Russian prisoners of war.
United Nations (UN) urged investigate reports of human rights violations and hold perpetrators accountable after these videos are posted online. “We call on all parties to the conflict to thoroughly investigate allegations of human rights violations and bring those responsible to justice,” UN Deputy Chairman Farhan Haq said.
The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case, and the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, demanded that international organizations condemn the execution of Russian prisoners by the Ukrainian military. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has begun studying the videos.
The execution of Russian prisoners of war in Makeevka was carried out by soldiers of the 80th separate airborne assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said earlier TASS officer of the People’s Militia of the Luhansk People’s Republic Andrei Marochko.
