The human rights activist confirmed the pardon of the convicted person for the murder of student Vera Pekhteleva

By decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Vladislav Kanyus, sentenced to 17 years in a maximum security colony for the murder of student Vera Pekhteleva in 2020, was pardoned. This was reported by the prosecutor’s office of the Rostov region in a publication published by human rights activist Alena Popova (recognized as a foreign agent) on the Telegram channel.

As the publication writes “Kommersant”“, the document on pardon for Vladislav Kanyus was sent by the prosecutor’s office in response to a request from the parents of the deceased student on November 3. In June, the girl’s mother reported that Kanyus was posting photographs on social networks in which he posed “in camouflage with a weapon in his hands.” According to Alena Popova, he is in the special operation zone in Ukraine.

In response to requests from parents, the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) reported that Kanyus was transferred to the department’s management in the Rostov region on April 28. The pardon decree signed by Vladimir Putin dates back to April 27, 2023. In September, Alena Popova stated that Vladislav Kanyus was released and began sharing photos from a barbecue trip.

On January 14, 2020, 23-year-old Vera Pekhteleva went to Vladislav Kanyus to pick up her things after their breakup. A few hours later, her father and brother broke down the door of his apartment and found the girl’s body there. According to law enforcement agencies, Vera Pekhteleva received more than 100 injuries and was then strangled with an iron cord.
