High-speed railways will form the basis of Russia’s transport framework in the near future. Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized this in his message to the Federal Assembly.

“The Moscow government, under the leadership of Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, is ready to work on the creation of the country’s first high-speed railway,” said Maxim Liksutov, deputy mayor of the capital for transport. “There are plans for 4 stations in Moscow: Moscow city stations Zelenograd-Kryukovo, Petrovsko-Razumovskaya, Rizhskaya and the final station – Leningradsky station.”

“The emergence of high-speed rail will entail an increase in the transport mobility of the population,” says Nikita Makutsky, head of railway transport at TsEI LLC. “A much larger number of passengers will be able to afford a comfortable trip for one day or for a weekend. Secondly, the implementation of the project will provide socio-economic effects both for the surrounding areas and for the country as a whole. Thirdly, with the advent of the high-speed railway, infrastructure will be freed up for the growing volumes of freight traffic in the North-West direction and for suburban traffic.

It is worth recalling that Moscow already has fresh positive experience in creating modern railways. In recent years, four MCDs have been launched in the capital.
