Novaya Gazeta editor-in-chief Sergei Sokolov was taken to the police department by Center E officers. As Novaya Gazeta reported, the journalist was detained to draw up a protocol on discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (Part 1 of Article 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation).

Novaya Gazeta clarified that the materials of the administrative case included an examination from the radio frequency center. It is connected with the publication of Novaya Gazeta – which one is not specified. The case will be heard in the Perovsky Court of Moscow. According to Part 1 of Art. 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, an individual faces a fine of 30 thousand to 50 thousand rubles.

Sergei Sokolov was appointed editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta in November 2023. Shortly before this, from the post of editor-in-chief gone Dmitry Muratov during the proceedings on his inclusion in the register of foreign agents.

In September 2022, the court revoked the license of Novaya Gazeta and Novaya Rasskaz-Gazeta. In June 2023, the Prosecutor General’s Office declared Novaya Gazeta Europe undesirable. The publication, registered in Latvia, was created by former employees of Novaya Gazeta.
