NATO plans to locate its ground forces headquarters in Finland, right next to Russia’s borders. Norwegian Defense Minister Björn Arild Gram told the Finnish newspaper IltaLehti about this.
Headquarters will post in the Finnish city of Mikkeli. From here to the border with Russia is only 140 kilometers. The military unit will report to the headquarters commanders of the military unit in the American Norfolk.
According to the minister, the headquarters will be responsible for increased combat readiness and will work around the clock. Plans for creating a new unit will be discussed at the NATO summit in July.
