The head of VTsIOM Fedorov called the death of Prigozhin a great success for the country

General Director of VTsIOM Valery Fedorov on the air of the radio station “Moscow speaks” expressed the opinion that the death of the head of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, was “a great success for the country.” Mr. Fedorov called Yevgeny Prigozhin an “overplayed” patriot who behaved “not like a system player.”

“In a sense, the death of Prigozhin, despite all his merits, is a great success for the country… The whole country exhaled, even twice. The first time I exhaled was when the rebellion failed, when Prigozhin realized that no one supported him, no one stood up for him, when it turned out that there were military units that were capable of establishing a barrier,” said Valery Fedorov. According to him, the head of a PMC “would be a big problem for Russia.”

In June, Yevgeny Prigozhin led a “march of justice” from the combat zone towards Moscow. The Russian authorities regarded what was happening as an armed rebellion. PMC mercenaries established control over military facilities in Rostov-on-Don and entered several regions with weapons. The situation was resolved through the mediation of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.

Yevgeny Prigozhin died on August 23 as a result of a plane crash in the Tver region. The commander of the Wagner PMC, Dmitry Utkin, and eight other people were also on board the Embraer business jet. They all died. Mr. Prigozhin was buried at the Porokhovskoye cemetery in St. Petersburg on August 29.
