The head of the US General Staff complained about the lack of contacts with his Chinese colleague

U.S. Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley said he has been unable to negotiate with his Chinese counterpart since last year in an interview with CNN.
According to him, he communicated only with his predecessor. At the same time, Milli himself will also soon leave his post and retire.
“I think it was in October or November when they held the last party congress. I haven’t had a chance to talk to his successor since.”
Earlier, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin requested a meeting with Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu last week, but was denied. As Milley said, the exchange of messages between the militaries of both countries continues, but he and Austin “would like to be able to talk” in order to avoid escalating tensions.
Milley also said that he does not consider a military conflict between China and the United States to be something inevitable, and stated the need for “de-escalation in times of crisis.”
Earlier, Reuters, citing sources, said that Chinese President Xi Jinping was “not interested” in negotiations with US President Joe Biden. The White House said that Biden “really wants to talk” with the Chinese President. As Reuters reports, in response to attempts by American diplomats to arrange telephone conversations, the Chinese side “showed no interest” in this proposal. Biden and Xi Jinping last spoke last November at the G20 summit.
