Peskov: The Kremlin is closely following the news from Kyrgyzstan

Disturbing news is coming out of Kyrgyzstan, and the Kremlin is watching it closely. This statement was made by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, responding to a request to comment on reports of a possible preparation for a coup d’etat in the republic.

“Undoubtedly, such very disturbing news is coming. Therefore, we are closely monitoring the news. We do not have any more detailed information at the moment,” he said.

Earlier today, 24.kg news agency, citing its own sources reported on the detention of “participants in a possible coup d’état” by employees of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) of Kyrgyzstan. According to the interlocutors, a group of people was preparing to seize power by force. Information about the identity of the detainees is not specified.

In November 2021, the State Committee for National Security of the republic announced the suppression of an attempt to forcibly seize state power. According to the intelligence service, a group of people planned to organize provocations to destabilize the socio-political situation immediately after the parliamentary elections in the country, scheduled for November 28. It was noted that the coup was being prepared under the leadership of a number of parliament deputies and high-ranking officials. Their names and surnames were not specified.

After the next parliamentary elections in 2020, protests began in Kyrgyzstan. Voting took place on October 4th. The next day, about 2,000 supporters of parties that did not make it into the parliament of the republic gathered on the central Ala-Too square in Bishkek.
