Finance Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Marchenko became the head of the Board of Governors of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund for 2023. According to Mr. Marchenko, the new post will help coordinate Ukraine’s cooperation with the IMF and the World Bank. Such an appointment has taken place for the first time since Ukraine joined these organizations, that is, for the first time in 30 years.
“Today, the governing member countries of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund elected Finance Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Marchenko to head the World Bank and IMF Board of Governors for 2023,” the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance said on Twitter.
Sergei Marchenko will also chair the annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank in 2023. The decision was taken unanimously by representatives of all countries.
Friday, October 14th in Washington DC passed meeting of the International Monetary and Financial Committee. It ended without a joint statement. Vice President and Minister of Economy of Spain Nadia Calvino explained this by the position of the Russian representative. According to the minister, at the meeting, the countries-members of the committee almost unanimously called on Russia to stop hostilities in Ukraine.
Last time the International Monetary Fund singled out Aid to Ukraine 8 October. $1.3 billion was directed to the needs related to the financing of the balance of payments, including in the food sector. World Bank October 1 agreed allocate $530 million to Ukraine under guarantees from Britain and Denmark.
