The head of the Ministry of Construction explained the collapse of a house in Astrakhan as an oversight by supervisory authorities

Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services Irek Fayzullin said that the collapse of a five-story building in Astrakhan was due to oversight by supervisory authorities. The day before, two entrances to a five-story building collapsed in the city, killing an 85-year-old woman.

“Yesterday’s tragedy in Astrakhan – what is it connected with? With what they didn’t look into, and, most importantly, the philosophy that any changes to the facility should not be done just like that,” the minister said at the VIII All-Russian Congress of Regional Operators of Major Repairs of the Common Property of Apartment Buildings. In his opinion, such cases can be prevented by the careful work and control of relevant departments.

On the evening of November 16 in Astrakhan collapsed two entrances of a five-story residential building: according to preliminary data, this happened due to construction and repair work in one of the apartments, during which load-bearing structures were damaged. A criminal case was opened for causing death by negligence and destruction of property (under Part 1 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, Article 168 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). More than 200 residents were evacuated from the house. A state of emergency has been introduced in the region.
