International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach criticized the politicization of sports and called on the leaders of the G20 member countries to include a clause on “sports neutrality” in a joint statement following the Indonesian summit.
Bach also noted that the coronavirus pandemic showed how important sports are, which can save a large number of lives.
“The Olympic Games, held in Tokyo and Beijing at the height of the pandemic, gave the whole world hope,” said the head of the IOC.
According to him, the goal of the organization itself is to unite the whole world through sports, the Olympic Games can do this, but it is necessary that athletes from all over the world participate in it. In addition, Bach emphasized that if sport begins to become a tool for political influence, then it will completely fall apart.
