The head of the HRC Fadeev asked the Prosecutor General Krasnov to take control of the case of the journalist Bayazitova

Chairman of the Human Rights Council under the President of Russia (HRC) Valery Fadeev sent a letter to the Prosecutor General of Russia Igor Krasnov, in which he asked to check the validity of the arrest of the Life.ru journalist and the author of the Hellish Grandmothers Telegram channel Alexandra Bayazitova. Mr. Fadeev is concerned about her state of health, as well as the fate of the journalist’s elderly mother.

“In the conditions of the pre-trial detention center, many of her chronic diseases can worsen. Also noteworthy is the fact that for 4 months no investigative actions with her participation have been carried out. In addition, Alexandra Bayazitova was dependent on her 74-year-old mother before her arrest,” Valery Fadeev said in a statement cited in Telegram channel HRC.

On December 30, Council member Alexei Melnikov visited Alexandra Bayazitova in the SIZO. Then Alexey Melnikov informedthat it is contained in a 30-seat cell. At the same time, the journalist did not convey complaints about the conditions of detention to him. A member of the Human Rights Council noted that the girl receives the necessary medicines, but in the conditions of the pre-trial detention center it is impossible to promptly provide assistance in a number of medical areas.

In August, a member of the Moscow Public Monitoring Commission (PMC), Georgy Ivanov, said that Alexandra Bayazitova was suffering from chronic diseases, including diabetes and hypertension. In this regard, the PMC recommended that her condition be monitored during her stay in the pre-trial detention center.

Alexandra Bayazitova was detained on August 10 under paragraph “b” of Part 3 of Article 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (extortion committed by a group of persons by prior agreement in order to obtain property on an especially large scale). According to investigators, Alexandra Bayazitova, together with other defendants in the case, extorted 1.2 million rubles. for non-publication of information discrediting the vice-president of Promsvyazbank Alexander Ushakov. The journalist denies her guilt. The last time her arrest extended until February 7th.
