The head of the HRC criticized the project to deprive deviators of acquired citizenship

The head of the Human Rights Council (HRC) under the President, Valery Fadeev, said that he did not support the proposal of State Duma deputy from the Communist Party Mikhail Matveev to deprive deviators of acquired Russian citizenship. According to him, the deprivation of citizenship is too serious a measure, which is redundant in this case.

“But here we need to understand what task we want to solve – to register or punish. Deprivation of citizenship is, in my opinion, a very serious measure, there is no need to play with it, ”said Mr. Fadeev (quoted from Telegram channel HRC).

He believes that the measures proposed by Deputy Mikhail Matveev are too radical and can lead to discrimination of citizens on the basis of nationality, which is directly prohibited by the Constitution of the Russian Federation.

Previously, Valery Fadeev repeatedly came up with initiatives to limit the rights of migrants. In particular, the head of the HRC suggested synchronize the issuance of Russian passports to foreigners and their military registration. He also urged do not take the children of visitors to ordinary schools without the obligatory knowledge of the Russian language. Mr. Fadeev thinksthat in the Russian Federation it is necessary to establish a much more thorough selection of labor migrants who are invited to work in the country.

Mr. Matveev introduced to the State Duma his bill on August 28. According to the explanatory note, persons admitted to Russian citizenship take an oath, pledging to abide by the Constitution of the Russian Federation, and Art. 59 indicates that the defense of the fatherland is the duty and obligation of a citizen of Russia. As the communist deputy believes, the acquired citizenship should be deprived for evading military registration, military duty or mobilization. According to the communist, “new Russians” often avoid the corresponding obligations, while their fulfillment during the period of a special military operation (SVO) acquires “special relevance.”
