The head of the Constitutional Court does not see the need for a new “Iron Curtain”

Russia does not need to create a new “iron curtain,” says Chairman of the Constitutional Court (CC) Valery Zorkin. He stated this at the educational marathon “Knowledge” as part of the exhibition-forum “Russia”.

Zorkin added that there is no need to “throw between extremes.” “On the one hand, this is a complete closure, and on the other hand, this is an absolutely open space in which the interests of others, not the interests of Russia itself, are at play,” noted the head of the Constitutional Court.
He noted that political radicalism and movement to the far right are dangerous for Russia and can bring the country to the brink of disaster. According to him, achievements in the field of freedom and law and order in recent decades in Russia came at an “exorbitant price”, and it is important to preserve them.
In September, after clarifications from the European Commission (EC) on the already introduced ban on the import of Russian goods, the Russian Foreign Ministry statedthat the restrictions reflect the desire of the EU leadership to erect a new “iron curtain” in Europe.
The EC, with its explanations, noted the Russian Foreign Ministry, deliberately introduces legal uncertainty and provokes EU countries to increase discrimination against Russians on the basis of nationality.
