State Duma deputy and leader of the Rodina party Alexey Zhuravlev is preparing a bill providing for the possibility of Russians receiving an “Eastern Ukrainian hectare” in new regions of Russia. According to him, participants in the Russian military operation in Ukraine could apply for land plots in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions as a priority.
As Mr. Zhuravlev told Kommersant, the new program can be launched by analogy with the issuance of “Far Eastern” and “Arctic” hectares to Russians.
“I would insist on the emergence of an “Eastern Ukrainian hectare” program, which participants in the Russian special operation could claim. By the way, Russia has already expanded by more than 100 million hectares, and after our victory someone will have to cultivate this land. In the Far East and the Arctic, every resident of the country can claim a hectare, but in the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, I propose to distribute the territories between those who directly took part in their liberation,” the parliamentarian noted, clarifying that the initiative is still pending at the development stage.
The DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions became part of Russia on September 30, 2022, following the results of referendums held in the regions. The West and Ukraine did not recognize the territorial changes and condemned them, calling them annexation.
