The head of Buryatia, Alexei Tsydenov, commented on the decision of the Vatican to apologize to the Russian side for the statement of Pope Francis about the cruelty of Chechens and Buryats. He called it a worthy step and expressed “respect” to the pontiff.
“We must pay tribute to the Vatican, the Pope for such a step, knowing what kind of informational hysteria is happening in the West, when only things that denigrate Russia go on the air … Respect to the Pope,” Mr. Tsydenov said on RT.
On November 28, the pontiff, commenting on the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine, saidthat, “as a rule, the most cruel, perhaps, are those who are from Russia, but do not adhere to the Russian tradition, such as Chechens, Buryats, and so on.”
Later Pope explainedthat spoke of the tradition of Russian humanism. “I wanted to make it clear that the cruelties of war do not come from the Russian soul. I have always strived to save the Russian people, because I am convinced that they have a great calling,” the pontiff specified.
December 15 Russian Foreign Ministry informed about receiving an apology from the Vatican. Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the incident had been completely resolved.
