The head of Buryatia, Alexey Tsydenov, announced the complete restoration of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) and the lifting of the state of emergency in the North Baikal region. As previously reported, on August 20, train traffic on the BAM was completely stopped due to the destruction of the dam and the overflow of the Kholodnaya River, which completely washed away about 200 m of the railway track and damaged ten contact network supports. Movement managed to restore according to the temporary scheme, only on August 23.
“To date, 1.8 km of railway track and 21 contact network supports have been completely restored. Near the village of Kholodnaya, the dam was restored and strengthened; its height is from four to five meters. A section of the regional highway Severobaykalsk-Novy Uoyan-Taksimo has been restored, which is operational for all types of transport,” Alexey Tsydenov reported on the work done in his Telegram channel.
12.2 million rubles were allocated from the republican budget for the restoration of the dam and repair of roads. The head of the region also thanked the railway employees who “took part in eliminating the emergency.”
The authorities are considering a new option for financing the expansion of the BAM – in material “Kommersant”.
